The cow is the most sacred animal revered in our culture from Vedic times. Dr. Chidambara Geetharama Gurukkal has built a Goshaala where 30+ cows roam free and live out their days peacefully. Apart from having a dedicated caretaker, each of the Paatshala students are allowed to name and unofficially ‘adopt’ a cow, who they are personally responsible for, creating a very special bond between the children and animals.

Some of the cows participate in Gau Pooja at the temple and the rest of them can often be found placidly hanging around outside the main complex or Paatshala building, with one ear tuned towards their favourite students’ chanting!
