About the temple

Nestled amidst the serene surroundings of Moratandi village near Puducherry, Sri Maha Shanishvara Bhagavan Temple stands as a wonderful spiritual destination dedicated to Lord Shanishvara Bhagavan, the divine embodiment of Saturn.

A Living Centre of Vedic Astrology

This temple is most renowned for its focus on Vedic astrology and Navagrahas. Because of their unique representation here, and the fact that the temple is managed by Sri Geetharam Gurukkal — who is not only a skilled vedic astrologer but also a vedic pandit well versed in both the Yajur and Sama Vedas — the temple is in the very unique position of having both diagnostic and curing capacities for any astrological ailments!

Towering Deities, Timeless Presence

One of the temple's most awe-inspiring attractions is the towering idol of Lord Shanishvara Bhagavan, the tallest Panchaloka Saneeswara statue in the world. Alongside this majestic deity, a 54-foot tall Graha Shanti Ganapathi also blesses devotees.

Navagrahas & other Gods in the temple

The temple complex is uniquely designed to house not only the Navagrahas and associated deities, but also those gods and goddesses who help us transcend and overcome our limitations — such as Ganesha, Devi and Murugan. Here are housed 15-foot tall Navagraha idols, beautifully arranged to represent all nine celestial deities of Hindu astrology.

Raasis & Nakshatras

Visitors can witness statues representing all 27 Nakshatras (birth stars), a garden of sacred trees associated with each star, and symbolic representations of the raasis or zodiac signs. This distinctive arrangement reflects the temple's deep connection to Vedic astrology and cosmic harmony.

Rituals & Poojas

Special poojas, abhishekams, and rituals are conducted regularly, especially on Saturdays, which are considered highly auspicious for Lord Shani. Devotees are especially drawn to the temple for Navagraha dosha parihara poojas and special prayers performed to seek divine grace and protection from the effects of Saturn. Thousands of devotees visit seeking blessings for career growth, health, prosperity, marriage, and relief from hardships.

An Atmosphere of Serenity and Reassurance

The calm surroundings, awe-inspiring deities and resonant chants of both experienced priests and young students from the associated Veda Paatshala create an atmosphere of serenity and reassurance for devotees.

Whether one visits to perform prayers, admire the grand statues, or simply experience divine serenity, the temple offers a memorable cocoon of faith and spiritual connection.
